
Neurology Nursing: A New Era in Education was hosted by RCSI School of Nursing and Midwifery in partnership with the Neurological Alliance of Ireland, the National Clinical Programme for Neurology, FutureNeuro and the Irish Neurology Nursing Forum.
The event saw the launch of a training course for neurology nurses. The first co-hort of nurses will go back into their community with enhanced learning and expertise. PSPA Ireland welcomes this very positive step towards providing a meaningful patient centred approach that will enhance and improve care for patients and families living with neurological conditions across the country.
This landmark collaboration on Nursing Neurology involved representatives from academics, clinical, patient advocacy groups chartering the journey to date and signposted ongoing work to position and strengthen nursing within neurology through training opportunities, increased recognition and workforce planning.
This course was strongly endorsed and supported on the day by the HSE representatives : Chief Clinical Office Dr Colm Doherty, Rachel Kenna Chief Nursing Office at DOH and Director Maureen Flynn HSE office of Nursing & Midwifery.
NAI CEO Magdalene Rodgers highlighted the strength of the collaboration that has seen patient advocacy groups come together with nursing partners, academia and clinical leadership to make a real difference to people across Ireland living with neurological conditions.
The event provided an opportunity to profile the NAI campaign #MyNeurologyNurseAndMe awareness initiative, running during National Brain Awareness week (16th March -20 March)
Supported by 16 patient organisations including PSPA Ireland, the campaign aims to raise awareness of the vital role of the nurse specialist in delivering expert, person-centred care and improving quality of life for individuals and families living with neurological conditions.
