National Grief Awareness Week 27th Jan – 1st Feb

National Grief Awareness Week runs from  27 January – 02 February. 

Learning more about grief can help someone before and during the grieving process and can also help the people supporting them.

It is important to be aware that:

  • Grief is expressed and felt in different ways. There is no right or wrong way to grieve.
  • How we experience grief and loss depends on a range of factors, such as our coping style, relationship with the deceased and cultural practices.
  • There are no stages of grief; it ebbs and flows.
  • There is no time limit to grief; it takes the time it takes.
  • Don’t assume people ‘get used’ to loss – grief in old age is still grief.

Irish Hospice Foundation provides a range of services and resources for people who are grieving and for those supporting someone through loss:

  • Bereavement Support Line: A freephone listening and guidance service for anyone affected by grief, or concerned about someone who is grieving.
    Freephone: 1800 80 70 77   Monday to Friday, 10:00am – 1:00pm
  • Bereavement and Loss Hub: Online information, advice and resources
  • Irish Childhood Bereavement Network (ICBN): Hosted by Irish Hospice Foundation, ICBN supports and advocates for bereaved children and young people, and provides resources for those caring for them.
  • Information and Support Line: Signposting and practical advice on end-of-life care for people living with, or caring for someone with, a life-limiting illness. Freephone: 1800 60 70 66  Mon.-  Friday, 9:00am – 1:00pm.         #BeGriefAware   #NGAW2026   @IrishHospice
