Campaign for roll out of Neurorehabilitation teams continues

PSPA Ireland is delighted to be partnering in the Neurological Alliance of Ireland (NAI) MYNEUROREHABTEAM campaign . The campaign launched on March 5th with

a call for funding for four fully staffed community neurorehabilitation teams, for the Midlands, South East, North West and North Dublin. A series of online meetings with

representatives from the hospitals involved, the patients and patient organisations outlined the challenges experienced with the current lack of access to services and provision. Local TD’s. senators and local representatives attended. The campaigning took place over a number of months and is called on the government to fulfill their promises made. These teams were promised in 2019 as part of the National Neurorehabilitation Strategy. The current programme for Government includes a clear commitment to delivering on the rollout of community neurorehabilitation teams.

At the NAI Pre-Budget launch Caroline Dooley Martyn Chairperson, PSPA Ireland and colleagues within the neurological alliance met with senators and politicians to raise awareness, increase understanding of the need for investment to tackle regional inequality in access to neurological care.

The submission had a number of asks:

Ask 1: Complete the national rollout of community neuro-rehabilitation teams by funding four fully staffed teams for the Midlands, North Dublin, South East and North West

Ask 2: Begin to deliver on the Prog for Gov commitment to develop more regional inpatient neuro-rehabilitation beds by investing in beds in the Dublin Midlands and South,North West HSE regions, to begin to deliver on the Programme for Government commitment to tackle the national shortfall of 175 beds nationwide. Ask 3: Strengthen the capacity of the not for profit sector in providing and supporting the delivery of neuro-rehabilitation services
